Job Description:
The Installation & Maintenance Engineer is responsible for the end-to-end installation and technical upkeep of Fiber optic cable systems at customer sites. This role involves physical cable deployment, precision splicing, and advanced troubleshooting to ensure backbone and FTTH connectivity. As an L2 professional, this position requires onsite leadership of technical tasks, high-quality customer interaction, and frequent travel across provinces to maintain Micromax’s sustainable infrastructure.
Main Responsibilities:
Technical:
- Execute the professional running and installation of Fiber optic cables to customer sites and home users.
- Perform precision splicing on all Fiber optic cable types to ensure optimal signal strength.
- Conduct systematic checks and investigations of Fiber optic cables to identify and resolve existing or potential faults.
Communication:
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for customers during installation, providing clear explanations and solutions for connectivity needs.
- Maintain strong communication with the Commercial and Support departments to ensure service delivery aligns with customer expectations.
- Coordinate effectively with business partners and represent the company’s technical standards professionally at external sites.
Leadership:
- Lead the troubleshooting process for complex Fiber optic issues for home users, guiding junior staff or assistants on-site.
- Manage the ability to travel and lead installation efforts in various provinces, ensuring team adherence to safety and quality standards.
- Demonstrate leadership by maintaining high-quality output and team morale under physical and time-sensitive project pressure.
Strategic
- Proactively investigate Fiber optic routes and project sites prior to running cables to ensure efficient resource use.
- Contribute to the long-term sustainability of the network by documenting technical problems and suggesting preventive maintenance measures.
Requirement:
Education/ Knowledge:
- High School Diploma or Diploma II in Telecommunications, Electricity, or a related technical field.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Fiber Optic theory, including signal loss, attenuation, and light-wave transmission.
- Strong understanding of occupational health and safety (OHS) standards, specifically for working with fiberglass and electrical environments.
- Familiarity with the Telecommunication Regulator of Cambodia (TRC) standards for cable deployment.
Skills:
- Precision Splicing: Proficiency in using Fusion Splicers and Mechanical Splicers for high-quality cable joining.
- Ability to operate OTDR (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer), Power Meters, and Visual Fault Locators to diagnose cable health.
- Ability to read and interpret technical site drawings or Google Earth path maps to investigate running routes.
- Expertise in both overhead and underground fiber deployment techniques.
- Strong teamwork, interpersonal, and Khmer communication skills.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting under pressure.
Experience:
- At least 1 year of hands-on experience in Fiber Optic installation and maintenance.
